I am Miss Edwards and I teach one of the Year 2 classes at Longmoor Primary School. Year 2 is a brilliant year! We do have to work super hard but we always have lots of fun. This is my third year at Longmoor and I love it! I am very excited for a elephantastic year ahead... I hope you are too!
Aside from my love of teaching, I love to travel and enjoy trying out new adventurous things during the school holidays! This year I went to South Africa and managed to spot a real life elephant herd! (But they weren't as cool as ours!) I have 2 dogs and 2 rabbits, they are all so cute. I love anything pink, sparkly or edible!

What Would The Gruffalo Find On Our School Field?
In Topic this half term, we will be doing lots of Geography. We will be learning about our local area, reading and producing maps with keys and deciding on the things we like about Long Eaton, and what we would improve.
In Science we are looking at different animals and habitats. We will also be looking at plants and trees.
We have P.E on Tuesday and Friday so please remember P.E kits and remove earrings. We also now have T'ai Chi on a Monday morning, PE kit is not required, but PE shoes are. Please ensure your child has a full outdoor P.E kit in school as it is still cold outside!
Spellings and Homework
Spellings will be taught daily for 20 minutes after lunch. Your child will also start to receive spellings to practise at home. These spellings are taken from the Year 1/2 National Curriculum Word Lists, they can be found as a PDF at the bottom of this page. Homework will be given out weekly alternating between a writing/grammar task and maths.
I, or an adult in school, will try to listen to your child read as often as possible! However, it is still very important you hear them read at home too. Books can be changed daily by putting them in the blue tray. Don't forget our Reading Reward Scheme! When your child has read 10 times they will get a Bronze certificate, 20 times - Silver and 30 times -Gold. Once your child has reached 40 reads (only 1 per day), they will get to choose a book from Mrs Dainty to take home.
Class Dojo is the new reward system that we are using at Longmoor. The teachers are able to give out points for a variety of good behaviours around school.
You should have received a code to allow you to see how many points your child has got and what they were for. If you have not got it yet, please let me know and I will arrange for another one to be sent to you.
You can access the website at www.classdojo.com or download the app on Android or Apple phones and tablets.
Show and Tell
Show and Tell may be brought to school but only providing it is related to our topic or we have a super special achievement to celebrate! We will try our best to squeeze it in!

Year 2 SATs
At the end of this year, your child will be sitting some special tests. They will be carried out as casually as possible and I have found that most children previously have loved taking part in their special mission! More information about the tests will be given nearer the time, however here is a link to get you started.
