Our Nursery teachers are Mrs Hamer and Mrs Hastings and our teaching assistant is Mrs Edmonds. Mrs Hamer is our Nursery teacher on Mondays and Tuesdays and Mrs Hastings is our Nursery teacher on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Mrs Hamer has been a teacher at Longmoor since 2019 and has taught in FS2. In her spare time, she enjoys going for walks and loves trips to the cafe with her friends for a cup of tea and chat!
Mrs Hastings started with us at Longmoor in September 2020, having been an early years teacher for some years. She is local to the area and has two primary school aged daughters. Mrs Hastings enjoys doing lots of different things with her family, including; camping, adventure nature walks and baking brownies and cookies!
Mrs Edmonds has been our teaching assistant in Nursery since 2003. She enjoys knitting and baking. Mrs Edmonds is a reserve Brownie leader and a keen football fan. She spends many of her weekends supporting her local football team!
We are pleased to announce that we now offer 30 hours free childcare, as well as the universal 15 hours for 3 and 4 year old aged children.
Please call the school office on 0115 9733368 for more information.
In Nursery we learn through a play based curriculum and we follow the updated EYFS 2021. Please see the parent leaflet above with the changes to the EYFS.
Mrs Hamer and Mrs Hastings plan using the Early Years Foundation Stage to ensure all children learn in a fun and exciting way. We assess children using the Tapestry online learning journal tool and you are given access to this journal when your child starts with us in Nursery.
We pride ourselves on ensuring children feel safe, secure and are happy to learn in the nursery environment. We work closely with parents and carers to provide the best for the children within our care. We use the online communication app Class Dojo and we post our learning and helpful hints and tips to help your child in Nursery on this app.
Our topic this half term is..
We shall be looking at a storybook and key vocabulary words over a two week cycle and asking the questions.....
The Very Hungry Caterpillar - What colours do I know?
Wow! Said the Owl - What is my favourite colour?
The Gruffalo - What happens when I mix colours?
We're Going on a Leaf Hunt - What does Autumn look like?
We will continue to settle into the environment, both within the nursery building and main school. We will focus on learning the boundaries and routines through exploring each weeks learning opportunities.
We shall be promoting our British Values in Nursery this term by learning to be a good friend and following rules. We will also be learning about where we live and how we are all different.
Our Medium term plan provision and activities are planned in order to develop your child's skills and deepen their learning. If you require information about recent plans and your child attends our Nursery then all planning is displayed in a paper format on the Nursery notice board.

This half term, maybe you could have a go at..
General tips for learning at home..
Below is a list of useful websites that we use in nursery:
www.topmarks.co.uk - lots of Early Years maths games to develop counting and recognising numbers as well as shape and symmetry knowledge.
www.twinkl.co.uk - a wealth of resources covering everything from pencil control, cutting skills, colouring pages, maths, crafts and knowledge of the world and more!
www.cosmickids.com - Brilliant kids' themed yoga videos such as Hoppit the Hare! These are great for developing core strength and concentration.
www.bbc.co.uk/tv/cbeebies - Search for 'Do you Know' or other informative programmes such as Andy's adventures or Go Jetters.
https://www.foundationyears.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/Early_Years_Outcomes.pdf - this is a link to the Early Years Statements to give parents and carers and idea of where there child is at and what the next steps are for each area of learning.
How we learn from home..
At Longmoor we follow a phonics scheme called Read Write Inc by Ruth Miskin. We introduce the children to lots of sound understanding by going on environmental walks, playing with sounds, songs and rhymes. We make up silly songs and practise daily name recognition.
Please see the link below about the scheme.

If your child attends our Nursery we may be entitled to extra funding called Early Years Pupil Premium. All parents will receive a form when their child starts Nursery to fill in and to check their eligibility.
Please see the leaflet below and/or our nursery staff for details, Thank you for your support.
WHISPER - Anonymous Reporting Tool
Sometimes it is really hard to tell an adult if you feel like you are being bullied. That is why we have subscribed to WHISPER. It is an anonymous reporting tool which allows you or your child to report any incidents of bullying and cyber bullying in confidence.
Click on the web link below to fill in a report. It will then be emailed to Miss Hughes (Online Safety Coordinator). Messages are checked as often as possible. In order to resolve issues effectively and promptly, please include your name. This will be kept in the strictest of confidence.
If you have any concerns or worries about your child regarding online safety and would like further advice, please contact Miss Hughes or Mr Lyons, the school's online safety co-ordinators or speak to Mrs Dainty, Headteacher.
