Phonic Screening Parent Information Meeting

Phonic Screening Parent Information Meeting.

On Wednesday 3rd February Mrs Lamb invited all of the Year 1 children's parents and some of the children in Year 2's parents to find out all about how the children are screened for their phonic knowledge.

Later this year, in June all children in Year 1 are asked to read 40 words so that we can find out about their ability to decode words. They have to read real words and 'alien' words, which can be tricky.

Mrs Lamb demonstrated how the screening works and then the children came down to the hall to work with their parents.

There were lots of words to read and parents were very impressed.

After the half term holiday every child that will sit the screening this year will be sent a pack of words to practise at home.

A huge 'thank you' goes to everyone that was able to attend.

Parents felt it was most informative and helpful in ensuring continuity of approach at home and school.

Keep practising those alien words - particularly those split digraphs!
