Reading

At Longmoor, reading is at the heart of the curriculum: it is the key that opens up the entire curriculum for our pupils. Our pupils learn to read, and read to learn. Children will learn to read with confidence, fluency and understanding, providing them with the skills required to achieve a lifetime of enjoyment through reading. Children read in school independently, with peers, with adults and as a shared whole class reading session. They listen to adults and other children read, taking part in Readers' Theatre activities including paired reading, choral reading and discussions with their peers, which aim to improve fluency and automaticity.

Reading Booklists

Reading for Pleasure is at the heart of what we stand for and as such we often refer to BooksForTopics as they are great at sourcing and recommending a variety of books to suit all readers. We often use their website to choose books for our Reading Spine.

Their reading booklists are there to help you to find the right books to boost enjoyment in reading – whether it is their popular lists of 50 Recommended Reads for each Year Group, the best graphic novels for children, recommended funny books, books for reluctant readers or lists of diverse children’s books. They’ve put together a wealth of resources to support book selection for children’s reading for pleasure.
