Welcome

Modern Foreign Languages - French

Meet Fred: Our Longmoor Curriculum French Character

Fred loves all things French – the wonderful city of Paris and the amazing culture and cuisine!  He wants to encourage you to learn how to speak French so you can develop this language at your next school and can speak confidently when you visit France on holidays.

Fred wants you to be confident in speaking simple French phrases, know numbers, colours, animals, greetings, foods and the weather.  He wants the older children to experience writing in French and to be able to have a short conversation.

In French we offer our children:

The confidence to speak with good intonation and pronunciation.

Fluency in reading.

Fluency and imagination in writing.

A strong awareness of the culture of the countries where the language is spoken.

A passion for language and commitment to the subject.

The ability to use languages creatively and spontaneously.

An independence in their studies and the ability to draw upon a wide range of resources.

Learning a foreign language is part of the primary National Curriculum and is a requirement for all children within Key Stage 2 (KS2). Here at Longmoor, we have adopted a whole school approach to the teaching of French to all KS2 pupils. By doing this, children learn to communicate in speech and writing, and respond to a speaker’s thoughts and questions. We aim to provide the foundations for further language learning later on in children’s linguistic journey.

As a school, we follow the Language Angels scheme to ensure children receive the best quality language learning! French lessons are designed to motivate, captivate and interest children from the first moment. They have clear, achievable objectives and incorporate different learning styles. Each lesson, children will cover all four language skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing, to help secure the foundations of their skills. Language Angels provides games and songs to coincide with each topic, so French lessons at Longmoor are always FUN!

Language Angels also allows children to access the fun and excitement at home! Follow the link below, or download the Language Angels app, and use our school login to bring French learning to you!
