Longmoor Primary School

Lifelong Learners

Welcome

Year 3 and 4 Victorian Day.

History Brought to Life at Longmoor.

On Thursday 29th January our three lower junior classes stepped back in time to the Victorian era. Mr Bunhejee wore a teacher's gown and along with Mrs Colley and Mrs Clayton the tone in these three classes changed considerable. The rooms were laid out in formal rows and as I or any other adult entered the room all of the children stood up to show respect. It was silent and children had to work individually at all times - there was no collaborative learning!

The British Empire was studied, as well as copper plate handwriting and there was much chanting of the times tables. I even saw several children standing in the corner wearing a dunces hat, I wondered what their misdemeanors had been.

The children dressed up and learned a huge amount about what life at school had been like in the past.

On Friday it was back to the present and work as usual,

Even though the children lived a day in a Victorian school they used modern technology to record their experiences, using our new i pads to video what went on. I can't wait to see the films!
