On Thursday 17th October Miss Mills, Mr Bunhejee and Mrs Dainty were lucky enough to be able to take 32 children to the Erewash School Sports Partnership Cross Country event at Wilsthorpe. The team had been practising for the last five weeks, with Mr Bunhejee and Miss Mills at dinner times, and were excited to finally get to race against other schools. Representatives from Ashbrook, Chaucer, Grange, Firfield, Harrington, Sawley, Shardlow, Dovedale, Risley and Parklands gathered for the start of the races. The first race was the Y1/2s racing over a distance of 1km against over 40 other children. Everyone in the team did really well and we finished 1st overall with some fantastic individual performances. Felicity R came 2nd and Ollie S was 3rd overall! After that came the Y3/4 race over a distance of 2km against over 60 children. Again we had some super performances and came 4th overall. Finally came the Y5/6 race running over 2km as well and more than 60 children participating. At the front were the children of Longmoor who managed to earn the team another 1st placed finish. Harry C in Y6 earning himself a 2nd place finish! Fantastic results for Longmoor! The children can be proud of themselves and how well they represented school. We saw some determined performances. Well done. A big thank you to all the parents and carers who came along to walk the children to the event and support the children, we really couldn’t have done it without you.
On Tuesday 1st October, following a late call up, Mr Bunhejee took the Y6 football team to the 7 a side tournament at Friesland. In a close first game we edged out Ashbrook 1:0 with a goal from Harry. In our second game we started to grow in confidence and played some brilliant football, beating Dovedale 3:0 with goals from Jack, Theo and Harry. With confidence a plenty we played fantastically in our final game beating Firfield 4:0 with goals from Kyedan and a hat trick by Theo. We finished with a perfect record of 3 wins and 8 goals, none against. This means we have qualified for the Erewash Finals! Well done Harry, Theo, Dylan, Jack, Christian, Kyedan, Isaac and Jake. Thank you to all the parents who helped transport the team and came along to support on a wet and windy evening. I’ll let you know when the finals are to be played. Next game is vs Homefields a week on Thursday in the league. IB
Today, we (Dylan, Jake, Barunka and Eleanor) were lucky enough to go on a trip to Derby University for a special sports event. The drills focused on four different skills (which were agility, balance, co-ordination and speed and strength). The day was ran by four professional athletes: a swimmer, a hurdler, a badminton player and a heptathlete. They helped us improve our skills and encouraged us how to think big. They shared their experiences and gave us advice on how we can succeed and be the next big sporting champions. An extra special thank you to the amazing Mr Roper for taking us. (*_*)

On Tuesday 11th June, Mr Bunhejee, Mrs Attenborough and Miss Cove took five enthusiastic children to the Boccia competition at Rutland Sports Park. The children had been practising hard to defend their title. The children played 7 close games, winning 3, losing 3 and drawing 1 meaning we finished with 10 points. Enough to finish in 4th. Well played to Thomas (Y3), Katie (Y4), Thomas (Y5), Alex (Y5) and Archie (Y6). Thank you Mrs Dainty for helping with transportation.
Erewash South Schools Swimming Gala 11th April 2019 at West Park Leisure Centre
Mr Bunhejee and Mrs Dainty had a great time at the swimming gala on Thursday 11th April. We took 11 enthusiastic year 4, 5 and 6 boys to West Park Leisure Centre to compete against 9 other schools in 20 races. All races were over 25 metres in front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly and ended with boys and girls front crawl and medley relays. The boys were represented by Jack from year 5 and Logan, Oliver, Milan and Ethan from year 6. While the girls were represented by Maria from year 4, Emmanuela, Megan and Amelia from year 5 and Hope and Lily from year 6. All the children raced fantastically, showing real determination against their competitors, finishing in the top 3 in every one of their heats. A superb effort. At the end, all schools gathered round and results were announced in reverse order. Longmoor finished in 2nd place, 1 point ahead of Shardlow and just behind Firfield who won. A fabulous result for Longmoor. Well done to all the children for their hard work in our practice lessons. Thank you to Mrs Wenham for helping with transporting the children and all the parents and relatives who came along to support the children, it was great to see so many people supporting the team.
On Monday the 28th January, Miss Edwards and Mr Roper were lucky enough to take 11 children to a Dodge Ball Festival held at Wilsthorpe. This was a fantastic opportunity for the children to have a taster of the sport and learn and develop new skills, including; throwing - overarm, underarm and chest passes. Catching – eyes on the ball, hands ready to catch and pulling the ball towards the their chest. And, of course, Dodging! The children (and teachers) had a great time at this event and their behaviour was exemplary and they did a fantastic job representing Longmoor. However, Leah and Gabby seemed to have the most fun by throwing the balls at Mr Roper!
A big well done to all our Dodge Ball Superstars – Beila, Kaydon, Tayler, Karla, Dylan, Christian, Gabby, Leah, Frazer, Maria and Emmanuela!
