Take a Hint Theatre Company Visited Longmoor.

FS1 and FS2 watched Goldilocks and the Three Bears, with a focus on recognising shapes in the story. The children enjoyed telling Goldilocks the shapes of each object, a sphere for a ball, a square for a cushion, a triangle clock and a rectangle for the bed. The children learned from mummy bear how they must put rubbish in the bin, as she had found a square sweetie wrapper!

They even sang a song with Goldilocks and the three bears.

They then watched the story of Little Red Riding Hood. They sang songs which helped the flowers to grow. They learned new words to describe where Grandma lived – ‘through the forest’ and ‘over the bridge.’ At the end of the story the children talked about walking beside the road on the path. It helped everyone to think about road safety.

Lastly, they watched The Three Billy Goats Gruff. They practised the days of the week, counting to 20 and also positional numbers, like 1st, 2nd and 3rd.The children also estimated the number of steps the 2nd Billy Goat would take to cross the bridge.

Who would have thought it, so much maths in traditional tales!

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the stories and it brought learning to life.

Around the World in 80 Days.

On Thursday 16th April our KS1 classes welcomed an actor from The Konflux Theatre Company. The children travelled around the world by plane. It was a bumpy ride!

They arrived in Africa and Antarctica. They searched for wild animals, using binoculars and entered a magical world.

    They had a wonderful day.

Back in the classroom the children discovered all about France and the French way of life.

The children tasted croissant, baguette and brie, and a little jam! They loved it.

They also used our new ipads to learn about a French school day. They explored Paris, had an Eiffel Tower building competition and learned some French, including singing in French.

    What a fabulous day.
