    The Big Build.

After being successful with our bid for National Lottery Funding, the £10 000 has now been spent on our fantastic new climbing challenge in FS2.

Mrs Ficken and the children kept a careful eye on the project and have photographed  progress.

Have a look at what happened over the two day installation.

We look forward to opening the climbing challenge at our celebrations for the Queen's 90th birthday on Friday 10th June.

  • The Butterflies at Longmoor.

     Butterflies at Longmoor

Our KS1 classes have been observing the life cycle of the butterfly.

The tiny caterpillars arrived through the post, and grew and grew, until they turned in to a chrysalis.

The children had them in small butterfly hatcheries.

When the cocoons started  to open the children were fascinated. The butterflies pushed their way out and waited for their wings to dry. Then they began to fly.

Miss Edward's class had a huge butterfly tent that they could sit inside. They were very excited and loved it when the butterflies settled on their hands and heads.

  • The Super Six Year 3 and 4 Rounders Competition

The Super Six Year 3 and 4 Rounders Competition.

On Thursday 19th May five schools took part in the  rounders competition at our school. Grange, Draycott, English Martyrs and Harrington all came along to compete.

A great afternoon was had by all!

The Head teachers of all five schools should be extremely proud of the children’s behaviour, politeness, and attitude towards sport.

A huge well done to Jack, Zoey, Mya, Ruben, Daniel , Daniel,  Kenyian,  Lily-May,  Oliver and Harley who represented Longmoor at the event. The whole team gave 100% effort and showed wonderful enthusiasm!  I was extremely impressed by the effort each child put into batting and fielding. Great catching Kenyian!

A special thank you must go to Mrs Bright, who gave up her time to keep  score of the games and ensure the children had enough drinks and biscuits! Thank you.

  • Erewash Valley Gymnastic Club – Year 2 Gymnastic Festival.

Erewash Valley Gymnastic Club – Year 2 Gymnastic Festival.

We took 10 Year 2 children to Erewash Valley Gymnastic Club for the morning on Wednesday 4th May 2016.

There were lots of other schools there taking part. Longmoor started off on the bars, we had to hang in a tuck position and hold a ball in our lap while hanging, it was hard! We then went onto the higher bar and practised swinging. We had a competition to see who could hang for the longest before giving up.

It was then our turn on the beam. We practised getting on and off, walking forwards and backwards then doing forward rolls. Some children even tried a cartwheel! The vault was quite tricky, you had to run fast and jump very hard!

After a short break we had a go on the trampettes. This was our favourite piece of equipment, we loved flying through the air and landing in a plié position.

Miss Grainger showed us how to do a flip, then if we were feeling very brave, we were allowed to have a try!

It was a fantastic morning, we were very excited to come back to school and tell everybody about it!
