  • The Town Hall Visit

    The Town Hall Visit

As part of our local history topic, the year 3’s and 4’s visited St Laurence’s church, the oldest building in Long Eaton. We learned about the church’s history and were allowed to explore this fascinating building.

After this we were welcomed into the Council Chambers at Long Eaton Town Hall, by the mayor of Erewash.

We sat in the councillors’ seats and were treated to tea and juice as she explained the role of the mayor.

Children were then allowed to ask their own questions as the ceremonial mace was passed around the chamber.

Thank you to the church and Town Hall for welcoming us and to all the parents who helped us walk with the children.

  • £10 000 Lottery Grant for Longmoor

£10 000 Lottery Grant for Longmoor.

Mrs Wilson and I applied for a Lottery Grant of £10 000 in order to build a FS2 climbing area. This week we heard that we have been successful and have been awarded the grant.

The design has been chosen and it is going to be installed just before half term.

We will have to close the FS2 outdoor area for two days whilst installation takes place, for a short amount of inconvenience we will at last have the climbing area to help our youngest children develop their gross motor skills further.

We are very excited and will be documenting the installation with photographs.

  • Longmoor Fashion Show

    Longmoor Fashion Show

On Friday 15th April, Longmoor PTFA held our first fashion show. The Risley Fashion House brought a hall full of clothing for our parents to look at, try and and you've guessed it , buy!

We had seven fantastic models and a huge thank you goes to staff and PTFA members for getting involved with the fun.

The event was well attended and enjoyed by all.

Yet again through their hard work another £350 has been added to the PTFA funds.

Watch out for the new playground markings that will finish off the playground refurbishment later this term.

All of the hard work and support is much appreciated and always benefits the children.

  • RSPB Wow Day for KS1

    Fri 15 Apr 2016 A Edwrds

    A Visit from the RSPB.

Firstly, we went on a nature walk around our school grounds with the RSPB. This was very interesting! We spotted and identified lots of different types of birds and trees and then went on a minibeast hunt.

After break we used clay and natural materials to make a 'Green Man' face on the trees, they looked amazing! We then had a look in our school pond and found some Frogspawn and lots of plants, we discussed how different this habitat was from the field. Then came our favourite bit! We used mud, grass and dandelions as natural paint to paint a picture. After a well needed lunch, we used recycling to build a junk model bird. We ended the day with the Gruffalo story - most of us knew it off by heart already!!

The day was thoroughly enjoyed by us all and everybody went home very happy and tired!

  • Swimming Gala

    Swimming Gala.

Mrs Menzies and Mr Bunhejee were delighted to take a team of

eight year 3, 5 and children to the swimming gala at West Park Leisure

Centre on Thursday April 14th. Hope from year 3, Tom, Reece, Holly H and Holly L from year 5 and Jasmine, Judah and James from year 6, all represented the school fantastically. They showed such determination and were really supportive of each other. The children can be very proud of themselves.

Particular praise must go to Jasmine who won her 25 metre breast stroke race.
