  • Chinese Celebrations at Longmoor

    Chinese New Year Celebrations.

All of our Nursery children enjoyed a day with Ling Peng, a Chinese artist and storyteller. They had a wonderful time making dragon heads, in preparation for their dragon dancing later in the week.

They had beautiful costumes to wear and ran a Chinese takeaway in their role play area, it was magical.

Our Reception children also celebrated by making auspicious fish, dragons and the highlight of the day, trying Chinese food. The whole school smelt gorgeous.

In the year of the goat, we wish everyone a happy new year.

    Gong Hey Fat Choy.

  • Sports Ambassador's Meeting

    Mon 09 Feb 2015 J.Menzies

On Thursday 5th February our four Sports Ambassadors attended a meeting at Wilsthorpe School. Miss Hobson and I accompanied them.

They were asked how sport is promoted at Longmoor School and all four children were positive about developments over the past year. They spoke eloquently about the clubs we run  and about the provision within school time.

They are keen to help Miss Hobson and the School Council run the 'Danceathon' for Comic Relief, later this year. When at the meeting they also organised for Steve Mellors to come in to Longmoor to train our Year 5 children to be mini- leaders for the summer term.

It was great to see our young ambassadors having a voice and planning to make a difference for everyone back at school.

Who knows - leaders for the future!

  • Year 3 and 4 Victorian Day.

    Sun 01 Feb 2015 J Menzies

History Brought to Life at Longmoor.

On Thursday 29th January our three lower junior classes stepped back in time to the Victorian era. Mr Bunhejee wore a teacher's gown and along with Mrs Colley and Mrs Clayton the tone in these three classes changed considerable. The rooms were laid out in formal rows and as I or any other adult entered the room all of the children stood up to show respect. It was silent and children had to work individually at all times - there was no collaborative learning!

The British Empire was studied, as well as copper plate handwriting and there was much chanting of the times tables. I even saw several children standing in the corner wearing a dunces hat, I wondered what their misdemeanors had been.

The children dressed up and learned a huge amount about what life at school had been like in the past.

On Friday it was back to the present and work as usual,

Even though the children lived a day in a Victorian school they used modern technology to record their experiences, using our new i pads to video what went on. I can't wait to see the films!
