  • Effectus Theatre Company presents 'Ugly' at Longmoor Primary School

Tue 24 Nov 2015 Mr Bunhejee

An exciting way to explore cyber bullying at Longmoor.

Following on from ‘Make a Noise about Bullying’ last week, the children were lucky enough to experience live theatre in school on Tuesday November 24th.

Actors from Effectus Theatre Company  performed ‘Ugly’. It included advice on cyber bullying, physical and verbal bullying, all told through drama. The performance helped children to think about the effects of bullying and how to deal with all bullying situations. The children responded really well to the shows messages, it was another great way to get this important message across.

Here at Longmoor bullying will not be tolerated.

The children came dressed as super heroes, in pjs and also as their own heroes.

James Bond, an RNLI, footballers and even Usain Bolt put in an appearance.

Thank you to all staff, children and parents for supporting this event.

    Futsal Competition.

Mr Bunhejee and Mrs Menzies took seven eager year 5 and 6 children to Long Eaton School on Thursday 12th November for a 5 aside Futsal competition.

It was extremely competitive with 6 teams turning up for the tournament. Louis from year 5 and Ja’vaie, Abigail, Judah, Ben, Max and Harry in year 6 all represented the school with pride and passion.

In the end the team finished 6th but enjoyed their first experience of Futsal.

A big thank you to all the parents and relatives, who came to support the team.

  • Derby University Day of Sporting Science.

    Thu 12 Nov 2015 Year 6 Children.

    University of Derby Sporting Science.

On Monday 9th of November, Mr Roper took four of us to a Year 6 gifted and talented event at the University of Derby. We took part in different activities such as test your reactions, sports psychology and sprinting.

Firstly, we did test your reactions, there was a specialist machine set up, someone was at either end, one person turned the light on, and then the other one turned it off as quickly as possible. On the other side of the room was machines called a Batak, where you had to press the buttons when they glowed, this was difficult because they were high or low with just 30 seconds to reach them.

We also found out about sports psychology. We drew a picture of our favourite athlete, we chose Mo Farah and we had to describe what makes him an elite athlete. Then we practised our hand/eye co-ordination . There was a star and a mirror and you had to go around the star without making a beep, looking at the mirror only and every time it beeped it recorded a score.

Finally, we took part in sprinting. We set up some cameras every five metres down the track and recorded our time. Then, the Derbyshire University lecturers improved our starting positions from the video footage.  We set up a camera and recorded ourselves in slow motion and played it back and looked at what we were doing wrong, then discussed changes we could make.

We had a great day and enjoyed representing our school.

    Mon 09 Nov 2015 J Menzies

Learning about the Importance of Remembrance Day.

The children have been finding out all about Remembrance Day. They looked at pictures of The Tower of London, when Paul Cummings' poppies were displayed last year, they found out about the Queen' Guards and why poppies are important.

The children dressed as soldiers to see what it felt like and improved their cutting skills when making their own poppies.

The displays in the nursery are fantastic, please see the pictures below.

Learning about important British events starts at the age of 3 here at Longmoor.

  • Year 4 Futsal Competition.

    Year 4 Futsal Competition.

On Wednesday the 4th of November, Mr Roper took a six Year 4 children to a 5 a-side Futsal Competition against 4 other teams, Sawley, Ockbrook, Cloudside and Chaucer, at Long Eaton School.

We had a great start to the competition and won the first game against Ockbrook 3 – 0. Kenyian scored 2 and Kairell got the third.

Our second game was a close 2-2 draw against Chaucer, with goals coming from Kairell and a Daniel.

Unfortunately, we lost our third game against Sawley 2-1, after going a goal ahead, scored by Daniel. The team faced a hard challenge in the last and extremely close game against Cloudside. The team pulled through by winning 1-0, the goal scored by Kairell.

Longmoor finished with the same number of points as Sawley, however, goal difference pushed us up into second place!

A big well done to Kenyian, Lawrence, Ruben, Ashton, Kairell, Daniel!

  • Year 3 and 4 Football Tournament.

    Mon 09 Nov 2015 S Roper

Year 3 and 4 Football Tournament.

On the afternoon of Thursday 22nd of October, Mr Roper took a team of Year 3 and Year 4 children to participate in a football tournament held at Wilsthorpe School. The children competed against 3 other teams: Grange, English Martyrs, and Harrington. Each game lasted ten minutes. Unfortunately, the team lost the first game 4-0 but the score line was not a true reflection of the effort the players put in. The children put their first game nerves behind them for the next two games and dominated both. The team was unlucky not to score and drew both games 0-0. Well done to Lawrence, Ruben, Ashton, Kairell, Daniel, Kenyian, Gabrielle and Paige from Year 4 and Logan, Archie and Dylan from Year 3 who played extremely well and did a brilliant job of representing the school. Thank you to Mrs. Tuck, Mr. Taylor, Mr. Booth and Mr. Wenham for their help and support walking children to and from the event, without which the children would not have been able to attend.

    Thank you!
