  • A Visit to the Erewash Sound Radio Studios

    Thu 23 Jul 2015 J Menzies

Our Visit to Erewash Sound Radio Studios.

On Thursday 23rd July four children visited Erewash Sound Radio Studios, to be interviewed By David Allen, one of the presenters and also a Governor at  Longmoor School.

The children found it fascinating and together have written the following account of their visit.

'Our morning at Erewash Sound Studios was too good to describe in words, but we'll give it a go. The visit was fantastic and exciting. Going live on the radio was nerve wracking to begin with, however we gained confidence as time went on. We talked about our summer holiday plans with our caring and funny host, Mr Allen. In addition to this we had an interview with Shadia, a delightful young lady, that supports Mr Allen, at the station.

Overall we had a spectacular and enjoyable morning that we will never forget.'

If you would like to listen to  our children's radio interview it is to be aired on Monday 27th July between 9.30 and 1pm on 96.8fm - Erewash Sound.

They were  all wonderful and a credit to our school.

  • A Lad in Trouble

Fri 17 Jul 2015 Mr D Allen (School Governor)

A lad - in - Trouble - Longmoor Primary School Upper Junior Musical based on the pantomime, Aladdin - July 15th 2010

Review by Mr D Allen (School Governor.)

I have just spent a brilliant afternoon at Longmoor School in Long Eaton watching their end of year show. It was fantastic and I think one of the best I have seen for a very long time. It was an updated version of the traditional story of Aladdin and his lamp.

What I saw on stage was a cast of enthusiastic and confident children who were singing, acting, dancing and moving for the sheer pleasure of performing. Their faces lit up when they came on stage and when the audience showed their appreciation.

There were some brilliant individual performances from many and I am sorry that I don't have your names but you were all fantastic.

I was very impressed by the quality of the singing which was exceptionally good. The songs in this particular show were very catchy and many of the lyrics were very witty. There were some quite expected awful jokes but they were delivered well and received the appropriate groans from the audience. That, of course, is the essence of Pantomime.

The costumes and make up were good too and the boy who played Widow Twankey was very well made up and sported an ample chest much to the delight of us all. He played the part very well.

Aladdin had a lovely voice, a twinkle in his eye and was a good actor. His Princess also sang very well and, much to the delight of the audience at the end, they left the stage arm in arm. Both their faces were a picture while doing this I can tell you!!

The role of the baddy, Abanazar, was played powerfully and yet amusingly by a great little actor who had a good sense of comedy timing. He delighted us every time he came on stage with his voice and his amusing gestures. He certainly commanded the stage when ever he was on.

The Genie of the lamp was great and rapped his way through the show. What a mover he was especially when he was given a "blow up" air guitar.

There were many more cameo parts that I haven't time to mention but well done to them all.

The music was on a CD but I was impressed by the skilful way that two Year 6 boys kept that moving and in the right places. The production was very smooth and the children came on and off the stage from all directions with no fuss and at the right time.

The scenery enhanced the show and was painted, I believe, by a member of staff. Very attractive it was.

This was a classy production and I am sure a huge amount of work went into it both from the children and members of staff to make it of such high quality.

I particularly enjoyed the final song and the finale. That was sung and danced brilliantly. This was followed by well deserved enthusiastic and sustained applause from the packed school hall.

Thank you for inviting me and I look forward to your next show. However, for the Year 6's this is their last performance as they are moving on to secondary schools after the Summer Holidays. Good luck to them all in the future. I am sure that many will continue to perform as they grow up.

Well done everyone. This was a splendid production in all respects.

  • Longmoor Summer Fair

    Mon 13 Jul 2015 J Menzies

    Longmoor Summer Fair

On Saturday 11th July we held our summer fair. The weather was perfect, warm and slightly overcast. There was so much happening, Vibez Dance Group performed three dances and there were two intra school football finals, which were so close it was unbelievable. There were games to play, sumo to have fun on and of course the usual face painting and cakes to buy. There was even a Zumba session for people to have a try at. A huge thank you goes to the PTFA for organising the event and to the staff for getting fully involved. Of course a massive thank you goes to you as parents and your children for coming along and enjoying the event.

On Friday 10th July 41 children, who had achieved 100% attendance had a treat by visiting East Midlands Airopark.

    It was fantastic.

The children visited a range of aeroplanes and helicopters, getting to go in the cockpit and sit inside the helicopter. Have a look at the photographs below.

We also had craft activities and refreshments.

To finish the visit everyone was awarded prizes, this year this included a book, sweets and a pencil.

Well done to everyone who came to school every day this year.

    You are stars!

    Rushcliffe Country Park   June 2015

What a lovely day we all had at Rushcliffe Country Park. The weather was fantastic, the children behaved wonderfully and we all enjoyed going on the adventure playground, the miniature railway, visiting the Heritage Centre, and then Mr Bunhejee’s class enjoyed Den Building with our Park Ranger, Alistair.

Mrs Parson’s class enjoyed a ranger led session of pond dipping. The children caught and handled a variety of creatures including snails, frogs and newts.

Mrs Clayton’s class participated in a minibeast hunt in the woods. Under various logs they found 28 different creatures and studied them closely through magnifying viewers.

Thank you to all the children and adults for their help during the day. It was fantastic.
