  • Cheerleading Festival

    Wed 23 Mar 2016 J Menzies

    Cheerleading Festival.

On Wednesday 23rd March our Year 2 cheerleading team went to the festival at Draycott School.

Four teams entered, Draycott, Firfield, Parklands and Longmoor.

On arrival everyone did a warm up to get their bodies ready. It was then time for the performances; each team had prepared a routine. Miss Smith was very proud of our team, as they remembered all of the moves.

It was then time for a short break, a drink and biscuits. To finish the afternoon all four teams joined together and learned a new routine.

I just arrived in time to see them perform. It was fantastic.

All of the children had enjoyed working together and meeting children from other schools.

A huge ‘thank you’ goes to Miss Smith for training our children over the last four weeks at lunch times.

  • Derby County Girl's Football

    Derby County Girl's Football

On Tuesday 22nd March 2016 Mr Bunhejee and Mrs Kirk were lucky enough to take eight girls to compete in the annual Year 5/6 Girls Football Festival. Thirty two teams from across Derby competed in eight groups of four at Derby’s Soccerdome. Longmoor played 3 group games.

In the first game we drew a very tight game 0:0 against Aston Trent. Our second game was equally close but we conceded three late goals to lose 3:0 against Parkside. In our final game we beat Walter Evans B team 2:0 with goals scored by Katie May and Abigail F.

After lunch we played Asterdale and beat them 4:0 with goals from Abigail F x2, Katie May and Jasmine. Unfortunately, this was not enough to get through to the next round but we all had a thoroughly good time and the girls represented the school fantastically. Mr Bunhejee and Mrs Kirk were extremely proud of the girl’s behaviour and their football skills.

A big well done to Abigail F, Abigail B, Jasmine, Amber and Katie May from Year 6 and Amelia, Jaime and Kya in Year 5.

    The Eggs Hatch!

The nursery and reception children have been watching the eggs over the last 3 weeks in the incubator. Last night the chicks began to hatch. Firstly, a little beak began to show, then we heard cheeping.

The children were enthralled, as were the staff.

Have a look at our youngest children enjoying new birth.

  • Sport Relief Walk at Longmoor

    Fri 18 Mar 2016 J.Menzies

    Sport Relief Walk at Longmoor.

On Friday 18th March all of the children, from Nursery to Year 6 took part in a sponsored walk. The School Council organised the event, which has been fantastic.

The children were walking, dancing and some were jogging. Everyone got involved.

Please send in your sponsorship money by Wednesday 23rd March.

The School Council will count the money and let everyone know the total amount raised.

Well done to all of the staff and children.

Indoor Athletics Competition Year 5 and 6

On Wednesday 16th March a team of 10 Year 5 and 6 children represented Longmoor at the 'Super Six' indoor athletics competition.

The children took part in speed bounce, chest push, javelin throwing, vertical jumps and a standing long jump. They also ran in a range of track events including hurdles, sprints and relays.

I was proud of the children for their enthusiasm, skill and sportsmanship.

    We came 3rd overall.

Well done to the whole team.

  • River Dance

    Tue 08 Mar 2016 J Menzies

Mrs York worked with Year 3 and 4.

Mrs York (Dance and Drama teacher at Friesland School) worked with Mrs Clayton's and Mr Roper's classes to design and perform a dance all about rivers, as part of their water topic.

After two sessions of working on the project, Mr Roper's class invited me to watch the performance. Our Year 3 children were amazing. They showed through dance, the journey of the river, from source to mouth. It was lyrical and beautifully performed.

Mrs York was complimentary about the children and Mr Roper has already booked her to come and work with us on our Olympic project for the summer term - it will all be about carnival in Rio. I can't wait.

As always I was proud of our children and staff.

A huge 'thank you' goes to Mrs York, who we look forward to welcoming back in June and July.

  • World Book Day 2016

    Fri 04 Mar 2016 J Menzies

World Book Day at Longmoor Primary School.

The children and staff once again dressed up as book characters for World Book Day. We had great fun and a prize was awarded for the best costume in each class.

At lunch times throughout the week staff members read stories and poems to all year groups.

It never ceases to amaze me how much children adore to be read to, even our Year 6 children.

     'The more that you read,

    The more you will know.

    The more that you learn,

The more places you will go.'

  • Bikeability 2016

    Bikeability 2016

Our Year 6 children had the opportunity to have a day course for bikeability. The Schools Sport Partnership provide the trainers and the children spent the day firstly learning skills on the playground, then later in the morning the group went out and about on local roads.

It is a great opportunity to learn about road awareness before they head off to secondary school later in the year.

    Well done to them all.
