  • Year 3/4 7 aside football at Wilsthorpe

    Tue 18 Oct 2016 Mr I Bunheejee

Another victory for the Year 3/4 football team! Following last week’s win at the Super Sixes, Longmoor have now won the Erewash School Sports Partnership 7 a side football tournament held at Wilsthorpe Scecondary School on Tuesday 18th October. A huge thank you must go to Mrs Wenham and Mrs Tuck who managed the team and to Mr Brown for coaching and advising the team, on our parents evening. The children played fantastically and grew in confidence as the tournament progressed. In the first game we lost narrowly to Harrington 1:0. However, the children were undeterred and won their next four games; 2:0 against Sawley, 2:0 against Risley, 1:0 against Grange and 1:0 in their final game against Brooklands. This meant victory! Congratulations to Tommy, Oliver, Logan, Dylan, Ethan, Archie, Jonah, Jaydan and Connie. As this competition fell on a parents evening a huge thank you to Mr and Mrs Hilliard, Mr Weir and Miss Bott, Mr and Mrs Addington, Mr Wenham, Mr Tuck and Mrs Brown for helping with transport and supporting the team. We really couldn’t have done it without your continued support.

On the 13th of October 2016, Mr Roper was lucky enough to take the Y3/4 football team to Harrington for a football competition. Every child demonstrated super sportsmanship and worked extremely hard for the team. As a result, we won the tournament!!! We won the first match 4-1, drew the second 1-1 and won the last 2-0. Congratulations Jaydan, Logan, Archie, Connie, Chloe, Dylan, Theo, Alex, Jonah, Ethan, Oliver and Tommy.

  • Year 5 and 6 Girls Football

Mon 10 Oct 2016 Miss Mills

On Monday 10th October, Miss Mills took 10 of the year 5 and 6 girls to compete in the tournament at Friesland. The team played brilliantly well, showing great energy and enthusiasm! We played against 6 other local school teams and each match lasted 5 minutes. Longmoor won 1 game, drew 3 and lost 2. A big well done to our goal scorer Paige! Not winning a game really did not dampen the girls’ spirits – they kept going and continued to support each other and it is safe to say that they enjoyed every minute of it.  A big thank you to all of the parents/carers who came to support Longmoor and helped with transport.

It was an absolute pleasure to see so many girls involved in the sport – girls football really is on the up. Go girls!

  • Erewash Cross Country Event at Wilsthorpe Secondary School

    Thu 06 Oct 2016 Mr I Bunhejee

On Thursday 6th October Mr Bunhejee and Mrs Dainty were lucky enough to be able to take 24 children to the Erewash School Sports Partnership Cross Country event at Wilsthorpe Secondary School. The team had been practising for the last two weeks, with Mr Bunhejee at dinner times, and were excited to finally get to race against other schools. The first race was the Y5/6’s racing over a distance of ¾ of a mile against 32 other children. The team did really well and finished 4th overall with some fantastic individual performances. After that came the Y3/4 race over ½ a mile. We had lots of top 10 finishers and ended up coming 2nd overall. Finally came the infant race with nearly 100 children, but running at the front were the children of Longmoor who managed to earn the team another 2nd place finish after some fine sprints to the line over the ¼ of a mile course. Three fantastic results for Longmoor! The children can be proud of themselves and how well they represented school. To top it off we were awarded the sportsmanship award for competing so well and supporting other children in the races! Well done. A big thank you to all the parents and carers who came along to walk the children to the event and support the children, we really couldn’t have done it without you.
