  • Y5/6 Futsal at Wilsthorpe 17.1.19

    Fri 18 Jan 2019 I.Bunhejee

Mr Bunhejee and Miss Mills took the Y5/6 Futsal team to Wilsthorpe for an Erewash School Sports Partnership competition on Thursday 17th January. Logan, Dylan, Archie, Ethan, Tommy, Harry and Theo played really well and represented Longmoor fantastically in matches against other local Primary Schools.

Our first match was against Brooklands who we beat 1:0 with a goal from Theo. Our second match was against Dovedale A who we beat 1:0 with a goal by Harry. So far so good. Two wins with three games left. In our second game we conceded a late goal to lose 2:1 to Harrington. Dylan had earlier scored an equaliser from the penalty spot. This meant we had to win all our remaining games. In our fourth game we beat Dovedale B 3:0 with a brace from Harry and one from Theo. This meant it went to the last game against Chaucer who were unbeaten. In a tough, tight game we lost to a strong Chaucer 2:0. Meaning we finished in 3rd place with 9pts.

Well done to all the boys who played some fabulous Futsal and scored some impressive goals. Thank you to Mrs Wenham, Mrs Tuck and all the other parents and carers who came along to support the team.

Futsal Competition at Long Eaton School 8.11.18

Mr Bunhejee took 7 eager year 3 and 4 children to Long Eaton School on Thursday 8th November for the annual 5 aside Futsal competition. The team played 3 games and managed to stay unbeaten. It was very competitive and Leon, Luca, Edward, Noah, Karla, Loucia and Spencer all represented the school with pride and passion. In their first game they beat Dovedale 1:0 thanks to an early goal by Noah. In the second game an own goal game them victory over Ashbrook Juniors. This meant that it was all down to the final game against Brooklands. It was a tense game but Loucia managed to give us the lead early on, which settled our nerves. In the end we had to settle for a 1:1 draw. This meant, after a recount, that we won the competition! Well done Longmoor, some excellent play and determined performances. Thank you to everyone who came along to support the team and especially Edward’s mum who helped with transportation.

  • Erewash Football Finals 25.10.18

    Fri 26 Oct 2018 M. Wenham (I Bunhejee)

I just want to say a huge well done to the boys on last night's performance at the football tournament.

Joint 2nd place is a fabulous achievement, and we are very proud of them.  Not only did they play some excellent football, they were all very well behaved and did Longmoor proud.  At times some of them were maybe playing in a position which is not their favourite position, but they were team players and pulled together doing what was asked of them.  Well done lads!

Let's remember, all the teams in the tournament last night were there because they had won the previous round, so they were up against some tough competition.  The boys did amazingly well conceding only 1 goal against the team who went on to win.  Our boys really did work hard and give it their all - we couldn't have asked for any more.

A HUGE THANK YOU to all the parents who were able to come along to support the boys and who helped with transport.  And big thanks to my other half Paul for stepping into the 'coach' role - I hate to admit it but he does know a fair bit about football so his help was very much appreciated.

I think we have a great football team, and the more they play together as a team, the stronger they will become.   The most important thing is that they are having fun playing a game they all love!

    Big well done from me!

  • Y3/4 Wilsthorpe 7 a side team 16.10.18

    Tue 16 Oct 2018 I. Bunhejee

On Tuesday 16th October, Mr Bunhejee and Mr Roper took the Y3/4 football team to the 7 aside tournament at Wilsthorpe. The children were really excited to represent their school and wear the school football kit for the first time. In the first game they lost 1:0 to Cloudside after a screamer of a goal from the edge of the box. As nerves settled they started to get into the game more. In the second game they lost 2:0 to Dovedale. The third game finished 2:0 to Firfield but they so nearly took the lead. Finally they finished with a strong game against Ashbrook but were just edged out 1:0. All the children played with determination and energy. Really proud of them all. Well done Karla, Jayden, Loucia, Luca, Edward, Leon, Joseph, Siena and Noah. Thank you to everyone who helped with transporting the children and came along to support the team.

  • Wilsthorpe Cross Country Event Y2-6

    Thu 04 Oct 2018 I. Bunhejee

On Thursday 4th October Miss Mills, Mr Bunhejee and Mrs Dainty were lucky enough to be able to take 25 children to the Erewash School Sports Partnership Cross Country event at Wilsthorpe Secondary School. The team had been practising for the last three weeks, with Mr Bunhejee, Miss Mills and Mr Johnson at dinner times, and were excited to finally get to race against other schools. Representatives from Ashbrook, Shardlow, English Martyrs, Cloudside, Parklands, Firfield and Harrington gathered for the start of the races. The first race was the Y5/6s racing over a distance of 1.5km The team did really well and finished 2nd overall with some fantastic individual performances. After that came the Y3/4 race over the same distance of 1.5km. We had lots of top 10 finishers and ended up winning the Y3/4 team event. Finally came the infants race running 750m. At the front were the children of Longmoor who managed to earn the team another 2nd placed finish. Fantastic results for Longmoor! The children can be proud of themselves and how well they represented school. We saw some determined performances. Well done. A big thank you to all the parents and carers who came along to walk the children to the event and support the children, we really couldn’t have done it without you.

  • Wilsthorpe 7 a side Football Team 2.10.18

    Tue 02 Oct 2018 I Bunhejee

On Tuesday 2nd October, Mr Bunhejee, Mr Roper and Mr Johnson took the Y5/6 football team to the 7 aside tournament at Wilsthorpe. In a close first game Cloudside beat us 2:1, Jonah scoring a consolation goal. This meant the pressure was on against English Martyrs but it didn’t show and they dominated to win 4:0 with goals from Dylan x2, Archie and Harry. Confidence was high in a close game against Dovedale which we won 1:0 thanks to a fine goal from Archie. This meant it went to the last game. Unfortunately we lost 1:0 so it was all down to goal difference! Luckily we topped our group due to the 4:0 win. So we would play a semi-final against Firfield B. The team were high on confidence and playing some super football. They controlled a tense game, winning 2:0 through a Dylan penalty and a Theo strike! This means we have qualified for the Erewash Finals! Well done Archie, Dylan, Logan, Oliver, Jayden, Tommy, Jonah, Ethan, Harry and Theo. Thank you to all the parents who helped with transporting children and who came along to support the team. I’ll let you know when we have the date for the finals.

  • Boccia at Kirk Hallam 22.5.18

    Tue 22 May 2018 I. Bunhejee

On Tuesday 22nd May, Mr Bunhejee, Mrs Attenborough and Mrs Davies took five enthusiastic children to the Boccia competition at Kirk Hallam Academy. After weeks of intense training it was time to put their skills to the test. In our first game we started slowly against Firfield 1 and lost 3:1. After a pep talk and some water, we played Dallimore and gave them a 5:1 beating! In our next game against Firfield 3 we won 4:1. This meant we were in the gold medal match against Firfield 2. We were in a rhythm now and played superbly, winning 5:2! This earned us a place in the County Finals in Chesterfiled later in the term. A great team effort! Congratulations to Ethan (Y3), Alex (Y3), Archie (Y5), Kareena (Y6) and Cameron (Y6). Thank you Mr Roper and Kareena’s dad for helping with transportation. I can’t wait for the County finals!
