Mr Bunhejee and Mrs Dainty had a fantastic time at the swimming gala on Thursday 6th April. We took 10 enthusiastic year 4, 5 and 6 boys and girls to West Park Leisure Centre. While the girls were represented by Ella from year 6, Hope from year 5 and Emmanuela, Amelia and Megan from year 4. All races were over 25 metres and the team swam really well. • Gymnastics Festival

Tue 06 Feb 2018 Mr Roper

On Tuesday the 6th of February 2018, Mr Roper took ten children from years 3 and 4 to represent our school at a Gymnastic festival at Erewash Valley Gym Club’s brand new venue. This was a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn new skills and develop existing gymnastic techniques using equipment that they would not usually have access to at school.

The children practised their balancing skills and showed brilliant bravery by performing forward rolls and headstands on the beam. They learned jumping techniques on the bouncy castle runway and to volt over the horse. They developed floor routine skills using hoops and ribbons on the tumble mat and used their core strength on the bars to balance and hold themselves up in order to do a somersault. Conor and Kyedan even managed to leap from the lower bar to the highest just like an Olympian!

All the children worked incredibly hard and attempted each station, even if it was a little scary, and represented the school fantastically! A big well done to Conor, Noah, Kyedan, Emily, Luca, Leora, Leo, Alex, Tayler and Lacey.

  • Dodgeball Champions 2018

Mon 05 Feb 2018 Mr Roper

On Monday the 5th of February, I was lucky enough to take a group of year five and six children to the local Dodgeball competition at Long Eaton School. We competed against eight other teams in a series of three minute games. Our children played fantastically well and demonstrated great spirit, determination and superb sportsmanship in each and every game. Of the eight games we participated in, we won six (three of which we won 6-0, meaning we knocked all the opposing players out) and narrowly lost two. Our knock out victories gave us the highest number of overall points and we won the entire competition. Each player received a gold medal. A huge well done goes to Dylan, Jack, Connie, Hope, Jaydon, Ella, Archie and Oliver. CONGRATULATIONS!

On behalf of myself and the children, we would like to say a special thank you to the parents that helped transport us to the venue and cheer us on to victory!
  • Futsal Competition at Long Eaton School

Wed 01 Nov 2017 Mr Bunhejee

Mr Roper and Mr Bunhejee took six eager year 4 children to Long Eaton School on Wednesday 1st November for a 5 aside Futsal competition. Unfortunately, the matches had to be played outside on the astro turf. It was very competitive with 5 other teams turning up for the tournament. Jake, Jack, Ryan, Kyedan, Theo and Harry (c) all represented the school with pride and passion. We won our first game 1:0 against Grange with a superb solo goal from Theo. In the second game we won 2:0 with a double from Harry. This meant we had won our group and would play the winners of the other group to be crowned champions! In a close game against Harrington both teams played superbly. In the end there were no goals and the game went to penalties. Unfortunately after 5 penalties Longmoor lost 3:1. A big thank you to all the parents and relatives, who came to support the team.

  • Harvest Festival

Wed 18 Oct 2017 Mr Bunhejee
  • Y4 7-a side Football at Wilsthorpe

Tue 17 Oct 2017 Mr Bunhejee

Thank you to Mrs Littlefair and all the parents who took our Y4 team to Wilsthorpe on Tuesday 17th October, on our parents evening. By all reports the team were fantastic in reaching the final. The team drew their first 3 games 0:0 against Risley, Cloudside and Dovedale which meant they needed to win their final game against Brooklands which they managed to do 2:1 with goals from Isaac and Theo. This meant they would play Dovedale in the final. After a close game of few chances unfortunately Longmoor lost 1:0. All the boys played brilliantly in getting to the final. Congratulations to Isaac, Ryan, Taylor, Jack, Theo, Harry, Jake, Kyedan and Christian. As this competition fell on a parents evening a huge thank you to all the parents and carers who helped with transporting the children and those who came along to support the team. We really couldn’t have done it without your support.

  • Erewash Cross Country Event at Wilsthorpe Secondary School

Thu 05 Oct 2017 Mr Bunhejee

On Thursday 5th October Mr Bunhejee, Mr Johnson and Mrs Dainty were lucky enough to be able to take 27 children to the Erewash School Sports Partnership Cross Country event at Wilsthorpe Secondary School. The team had been practising for the last three weeks, with Mr Bunhejee and Mr Johnson at dinner times, and were excited to finally get to race against other schools. Representatives from Dovedale, Sawley Juniors, Firfield, Parklands Infants, Scargill, Grange, Ladycross and Harrington gathered for the start of the races. The first race was the Y5/6s racing over a distance of ¾ of a mile. The team did really well and finished 2nd overall with some fantastic individual performances. After that came the Y3/4 race over ½ a mile. We had lots of top 10 finishers and ended up winning the Y3/4 team race. Finally came the infant race with over 100 children, running a quarter of a mile. Running at the front were the children of Longmoor who managed to have the 2nd and 4th place boys and girls. Fantastic results for Longmoor! The children can be proud of themselves and how well they represented school. Well done. A big thank you to all the parents and carers who came along to walk the children to the event and support the children, we really couldn’t have done it without you.

  • Y5/6 Wilsthorpe 7 Aside

Tue 03 Oct 2017 Mr Bunhejee

On Tuesday 3rd October, Mr Bunhejee and Mr Roper took two teams to the Y5/6 7 aside tournament at Wilsthorpe. The first time we have taken two teams. Both teams played really well in their group against some very good teams from across Erewash. Longmoor 1 won 1, drew 2 and lost 1 with both Daniel (Y6) and Dylan (Y5) scoring fantastic goals. Longmoor 2 played brilliantly to win 2, draw 1 and lose 1. Archie (Y5) scoring both goals. Unfortunately both teams missed out on a semi-final match, finishing 3rd in their group, Longmoor 2 only by virtue of goal difference. Well done to Kairell, Ruben, Ashton, Jamie, Lawrence and Daniel in year 6 and Archie, Dylan, Logan, Alex, Oliver, Jayden, Tommy, Jonah and Ethan in year 5. The games were close and exciting and the children represented school very well. Thank you to all the parents who helped with transporting children and to all those who came along to support the teams. We could not have taken so many children if it wasn’t for your support. Thank you.

  • Year 3/4 and 5/6 Intra School Football Tournament Finals

Sat 08 Jul 2017 Mr Bunhejee

The last month has seen over ninety boys and girls in the Juniors playing an intra school football tournament that led to two fantastic finals at the summer fayre on the 8th July. In the Year 3/4 final the Golden Boots put in a clinically performance against the Golden Snakes to win 5:0. A little while later the Year 5/6 final between F7 Freestylers and Big Pigeons took place. After a tense match the two teams were tied at 1:1 which meant a period of extra time. With no goals scored in extra time the final would be decided on penalties. After both teams had been successful with 4 out of 5 kicks it went to sudden death with Big Pigeons scoring and F7 Freestylers missing the decisive kick. A dramatic end to a thrilling match! Well done to all the players involved and thank you to all the parents who came along to support the teams in another super end of year tournament. Thank you to all the teachers who helped referee games.

  • Boccia Competition at Kirk Hallam

Tue 23 May 2017 Mr Bunhejee

Mr Bunhejee, Mrs Attenborough and Miss Norris took five enthusiastic children to the Boccia competition at Kirk Hallam Academy. After weeks of training it was time to put their skills to the test, against other schools from the area. After five, tense and keenly fought, matches Longmoor had won two and lost three. Unfortunately this was not good enough to reach the final but we left with our heads held high as out of eleven schools, including secondary schools, we were awarded the Fair Play trophy for good sportsmanship! Congratulations to Thomas (Y3), Liam (Y4), Archie (Y4), Nikita (Y4) and Cameron (Y5). Thank you Miss Hurt for helping with transportation. I can’t wait for next year!
