Welcome

Modern Foreign Languages - French

Meet Fred: Our Longmoor Curriculum French Character

Fred loves all things French – the wonderful city of Paris and the amazing culture and cuisine!  He wants to encourage you to learn how to speak French so you can develop this language at your next school and can speak confidently when you visit France on holidays.

Fred wants you to be confident in speaking simple French phrases, know numbers, colours, animals, greetings, foods and the weather.  He wants the older children to experience writing in French and to be able to have a short conversation.

Modern foreign languages teaching at Longmoor Primary School aims to introduce children to an additional language which fosters curiosity and deepens children’s understanding of the world. Children learn to communicate in speech and writing and respond to speaker’s thoughts and ideas. We aim to provide the foundation for further learning of languages. While learning another language, children access ideas and experiences from other cultures and communities, which in turn encourages children to have an understanding and appreciation of diversity in society. At Longmoor we have chosen to learn French as our additional language.

In French we offer our children:

  • The confidence to speak with good intonation and pronunciation.
  • Fluency in reading.
  • Fluency and imagination in writing.
  • A strong awareness of the culture of the countries where the language is spoken.
  • A passion for language and commitment to the subject.
  • The ability to use languages creatively and spontaneously.
  • An independence in their studies and the ability to draw upon a wide range of resources.
