Longmoor's Safeguarding Statement

At Longmoor Primary School the health, safety and well-being of every child is our top priority. We expect all staff, governors and volunteers to share this commitment in safeguarding our pupils.

We listen to our pupils and take seriously what they tell us. All school staff are trained in Child Protection, and children are made aware of the adults they can talk to if they have any concerns. Staff are trained to look out for signs of physical/emotional harm or neglect and are required to report these to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).

The procedures which we follow have been laid down by the Derbyshire Area Safeguarding Team and the school has adopted a Child Protection Policy in line with this, for the safety of all. On rare occasions our concern about a child may mean that we have to consult other agencies. We will ensure that all concerns are discussed with parent/carers first, before any referrals are made, unless we believe that such a move may be contrary to a child’s welfare.

The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for Child Protection is Mrs S Dainty.

Should you have any concerns about a pupil, or a pupil makes a disclosure to you, please speak to Mrs. Dainty immediately. Should she not be in school, please speak to Mr Green, Miss Hughes, Mrs Chibbaro, Mr Bunhejee or Mrs MacLeod.

Our Safeguarding Governor is Mr R Wheatley.

It is important to remember that, however small a concern may seem to you, it may be one of a series of concerns raised by different adults and therefore, recording such concerns enable the school to take the appropriate action to ensure that all children’s needs are being met.

Safeguarding arrangements at Longmoor Primary School are underpinned by three key principles:

• Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility: all Staff, Governors and Volunteers should play their full part in keeping children safe.

• That Longmoor Primary School operates a child-centred approach: a clear understanding of the needs, wishes, views and voices of children.

• That all Staff, Governors and Volunteers have a clear understanding regarding abuse and neglect in all forms; including how to identify, respond and report. This also includes knowledge in the process for allegations against professionals.  Staff, Governors and Volunteers should feel confident that they can report all matters of safeguarding children in the School where the information will be dealt with swiftly and securely, following the correct procedures with the safety and wellbeing of the children in mind at all times.

There are 6 main elements in our Child Protection Policy:

• The types of abuse that are covered by the policy;

• The signs of abuse that Staff and Volunteers should look out for;

• Roles and responsibilities for Safeguarding;

• Expectations of Staff and Volunteers with regard to Safeguarding, and the procedures and processes that should be followed, including the support provided to children;

• How the School will ensure that all Staff and Volunteers are appropriately trained, and checked for their suitability to work within the School;

• How the policy will be managed and have its delivery overseen.
